A SPATE of arson attacks have occurred in a town centre.

Police are appealing for information after eight small fires have been reported in Henfield since November and the latest incident took place on February 16.

A wheelie bin was completely destroyed by fire between midnight and 7.50am on Saturday, November 1, outside Bet Fred in the High Street. Cones and cardboard were set alight in a car park behind Barclays bank in a second fire on the same day.

On November 15 a fire was reported in Caudle Street and on November 18 a notice board was set on fire at the bus shelter in the High Street. None were reported in December but since then three more fires took place. Rubbish was set alight in Henfield Library car park and by a hair salon, and a bag of shoes by recycling bins were ignited. Police have not released further details on the latest incidents.

Police are working with firefighters to track down the culprits of the fires.

PCSO Bryony Sparks said: “We believe these arsons are linked because they are so close in terms of location. We are really keen to hear from anyone who may have any information about these fires and are asking local residents to remain vigilant and report anyone acting suspiciously in the area.”
