A PROLIFIC shoplifter has gone to jail for eight weeks after thieving more than £700 in goods.

Emma Sabine stole £578 of beauty products from Superdrug, candles worth £108 from boots, as well as £56 of cheese from Tesco, and £35 of wine from Spar.

All the thefts were committed in Hastings stores on four different occasions throughout January.

The 29-year-old, of Homesdale Gardens, Hastings, committed the offences after being handed a suspended sentence in December for shoplifting in the summer. PC Nick Marriott, of the Hastings Neighbourhood Police Team, said: "Shoplifting is a serious offence which takes hard-earned cash out of the pockets of innocent business owners who should not have to suffer at the hands of the likes of Sabine.

"I hope her sentence will reassure the business community that we do take their concerns seriously and will take decisive action to put offenders before the courts."
