IT WAS love at first bite for a pair of amphibious mascots who found love after a Valentine’s Day appeal, writes Robert Heath.

Sid the Shark, the mascot of Sussex County Cricket Club (SCCC), has hooked up with Sharkey, the mascot of Brighton SeaLife Centre as the pair shared a romantic trip on a glass-bottomed boat.

Earlier this month we reported how the cricket club launched a campaign to find a Valentine for lonely Sid, and he was in luck when Sharkey asked him out on Twitter.

The love-struck Sid bit Sharkey’s hand off at the offer, and paid a visit to Sea Life Brighton where Sharkey presented him with a box of chocolates.

Everything went swimmingly as the couple also enjoyed the aquarium’s newest attraction Jurassic Seas, coming face-to-face with some fearsome aquatic dinosaurs.

Zac Toumazi, chief executive of SCCC, said Sid had been a changed character since the date: “It’s great to have Sid the Shark back in high spirits.

“Hopefully Sid will introduce me to Sharkey when she visits to see our match against Gloucestershire.”
