- THE SUPREME Court is due to rule this morning on whether residents should have the right to use West Beach in Newhaven.
- The beach's French owners, Newhaven Port and Properties, have appealed against a ruling giving the beach village-green status.
- The company says serious health and safety issues are to blame for the beach's closure since 2006.
- The beach is part of the operational land of Newhaven port, and NPP says village-green status could get in the way of its control of the land
- Residents, however, have opposed the closure, scaling fences and holding protest picnics on the beach.
- The case was heard in November by Lord Neuberger, Lady Hale, Lord Sumption, Lord Carnwath and Lord Hodge.
- They are due to give their verdict at 9.45am.
