Large amounts of jewellery and cash were stolen during two burglaries.

The first took place at an address in Coxham Lane, Steyning, where burglars forced their way in sometime between 11.45am and 11.5pm on Thursday February 12.

The second took place the following day in Clivedale Gardens between 5pm and 8.30pm. Hundreds of pounds in cash was taken.

Detective Constable Mark Buckley said: "We are investigating these two offences which occurred within just a day of each other in this rural location. Both sets of victims are understandably shaken, especially the elderly couple who were at home when the burglars broke in, though they didn't see or hear anything. We are appealing for witnesses to either break-in. Coxham Lane is a busy road and right near a school and it happened right in the middle of the day.

"We are reminding people to be vigilant and report suspicious people and vehicles immediately. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 1464 of 13/02. Alternatively contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
