Who says romance is dead? If you're longing for some good old-fashioned fun on February 14 there's no better place to be than the Brighton Dome Strictly Valentine's Ball.

The ten-piece Berkeley Square Society Band and guest bassist Herbie Flowers will be transporting dancers back in time to a scene straight from a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers film.

The Band, formed by some of London's busiest and best freelance musicians, will be taking time out from their hectic schedules to treat dancers to a show-stopping night.

Expect classics from the Roaring Twenties to the Fabulous Forties, including Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, the Charleston and the Continental, as glamorous men and women trip the light fantastic.

If you're cursed with two left feet, there's the chance to do a bit of pre-show swotting-up. Ballroom dance teacher Carola Degener is running classes before the big ball to help those who need to brush up on their footwork.

The ballroom dancing workshop runs on Monday and Tuesday (Feb 12-13) and will teach beginners, or those who are just a bit rusty, everything from cha cha cha and the waltz to the rumba, tango and quickstep (8pm, £5).

  • Advance booking is essential. Starts 8pm, tickets £14 each or £25 per couple. Call 01273 709709.
