FORCES sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn is set to feature in the 70th anniversary of VE Day at the grand old age of 98.
The much-loved singer from Ditchling is reported to be involved in the planning of the celebrations to mark the end of the Second World War on May 8.
Dame Vera will be consulted over the arrangements and is “likely” to provide either a written tribute statement or video message, according to reports in The Mail On Sunday.
The singer, who will celebrate her 98th birthday on Friday, is now too frail to travel to events at the end of her incredible career spanning 80 years.
The three-day celebrations in May will include wartime-themed parties, the lighting of a chain of beacons, a veterans’ parade, an RAF fly-past and a 1940s styled pop concert starting on the day after the general election.
A service of remembrance will be held at The Cenotaph with a two-minute silence at 3pm signifying 70 years since then Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced the end of the war.
