Having read Adam Trimingham’s column about the proposed swimming pool at the Pater Pan site, I have these comments.

This new pool is a completely different kind of pool to Saltdean Lido. In fact I read that the Lido welcome the new pool.

I am a member of the Brighton Sea Swimmers and swim regularly in the sea.

I am surprised by your lack of knowledge of the swimming conditions along this stretch of beach.

Did you read all the articles published in your newspaper about inexperienced people swimming in the sea and getting into difficulty.

There is a strong shore dump and a shelving beach which is difficult for people unless they are experienced sea swimmers.

The pool would attract enthusiasts and athletes. Open water swimming has experienced increased popularity over the last few years with British Gas and the Government putting resources into it.

Sport is an excellent source of income for the city.

Your comment “people will just swim in the sea” is incorrect.

How many people do you know who swim in the sea on a regular basis throughout the year?

And of course the facility will bring jobs to the area Jane Austin Old Market Cottages Hove
