I have a great deal of respect for Councillor Ann Norman but the fact that she allowed her name to be put to such an unpleasant letter (Argus, 12th March) does her no favours at all.

It makes no positive contribution to the debate prior to the election.

Over the past six months Labour has put forward a positive set of policies for the city, and will not increase council tax by more than the amount set by government, 1.99%.

That is the same level set by most local Conservative councils and the local Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner.

Coun Norman’s letter criticises our manifesto, yet with more than £100 million being cut from council services by the current Conservative government, she and her colleagues remain utterly silent on their policies with no manifesto yet published.

We look forward to seeing commitments within their manifesto on tackling homelessness, reducing poverty, dealing with the cost of living crisis, helping tenants in the private sector, eliminating youth unemployment and all the other things that have worsened under the Conservative Coalition government.
