Almost two years on from the first appearance of 20mph zones in Brighton and Hove and the issue still stirs up as much debate as ever.
It seems that we will never get universal consensus on whether they are positive or negative for the city and that opinion will differ wildly depending on whether you are a car driver or a parent of young children living near a busy road.
What seems to be clear is that the limits are here to stay and on a city-wide scale once phase three of the scheme is introduced.
It would take a brave council to take speed limits up again in any road that has recently changed to 20mph – just imagine the uproar if subsequently a child was injured or killed.
So whatever the pros and cons, its time for the talk to stop and for motorists to follow the rules.
