PLANT pots have appeared on another street in Brighton and Hove along with an eye-catching statue to encourage motorists to slow down.
i360 contractor Mackley has delivered five large used planters with Holm Oaks and a headless statue to Waterloo Street, Hove, from their store at the Cityparks depot in Stanmer Park.
The trees, which were moved by heavy-lifting equipment and put in place on Thursday morning, were brought in following appeals by residents who wanted to “green” up their street and encourage speeding motorists to slow down with a “visual nudge” to remind them they are in a residential area.
Ward councillor Ollie Sykes said: “These planters were once placed along Western Road, and now they’ve returned to the area. I think they’ll transform Waterloo Street and I hope they will also slow traffic down.”
Lou Perrotta said residents were “delighted” with the gift while Mackley’s marketing manager David Knapp said the local firm took great pride in supporting the council.
The planters follow the installation of controversial pots along Viaduct Road in Brighton. A council spokeswoman said the Viaduct Road planters have been “successful” at reducing speeds during off-peak hours.
