The hidden danger in our food is being highlighted in a national campaign this week.
Salt can be found in a large number of day-to-day foods that you may not expect – like bread, cheese and baked beans – and it doesn’t take much to pass the recommended daily amount.
A small amount of salt will not cause any problems but moderation is the key.
Too much salt can raise your blood pressure and lead to further health complications such as heart problems, stroke and kidney problems.
Hopefully the awareness week will encourage people to stop, think and check the labels on anything they buy.
It is hoped we will think again before reaching for the salt cellar and opt for the pepper instead.
