THE number one song Uptown Funk is helping children shine on stage in a celebration of school and community.

The yearly Let’s Dance event held its second night of events as pupils took to the stage at the Brighton Dome last night.

Children from 78 schools are taking part across the week as each school puts on their own unique dance spectacular.

Across four days 2,500 children will dance with different schools performing each evening– followed by two nights of the Dorothy Stringer Dance Show on Friday and Saturday.

Jo Wait, event organiser from Dorothy Stringer, said this year the chart topper Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson is the most popular pick.

She said: “It is a different show every day with 20 schools performing each evening - straight from infant school up to the university age”

She added: “The children love it and I think it is the working together and the tradition. It is so inclusive and you do not have to be amazing – everyone can dance and every school can enter, it is just a question of taking part.”

The event is not themed and each school can pick their own dance and song. The Argus will be publishing pictures from each performance every day this week and hundreds of photos are available to purchase.
