Tam Larges' defection to the UKIP is a disappointment but I believe it confirms the Conservative Party is now a moderate centrist force in British politics, and is concerned about our public services the NHS, schools, the elderly and their pensions. Tam has been an enthusiastic member of the Lewes Conservative Constituency Association during the period when Lewes was lost to the Liberal Democrats in 1997, 2001 and 2005.

At a time when David Cameron is now influencing policy and has confirmed the Conservative Party does not want a European constitution, would keep the pound, and want to see powers returned to the EU, I find it baffling that Tam jumps ship to the UKIP, a large vote for which will indeed win the next election for the Labour Party, a party that has campaigned for an EU constitution, and would still be prepared to give up the pound.
