Children dressed up as groovy gangsters and swinging skeletons to hit the stage for a dance spectacular.

Pupils from Downs Infant School put together a dance medley inspired by Bugsy Malone as part of the weeklong Let’s Dance event.

Children from Elm Grove Primary put together a dramatic performance featuring Chemical Brothers song Hey Boy Hey Girl and wore skeleton costumes.

These were just two of the schools hitting the stage yesterday as this week 2,500 children are taking to the stage at the Brighton Dome.

Children from 78 schools across Brighton and Hove are taking part across the week – each with a unique show.

Other performances included Queen’s Park Primary school who danced to Florence and the Machine’s Dog Days Are Over and Cardinal Newman Catholic School grooved to chart topper Uptown Funk by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson.

Jo Wait, the organiser from Dorothy Stringer, said the performances have been “absolutely brilliant”.

She said: “All the kids have been so professional and it has been very well received by parents and sold out most nights with lots of lovely feedback.

“Westdene Primary School did a really moving piece about war and remembrance.”

The Argus will be publishing pictures from each performance every day this week and hundreds of photos are available to purchase.
