An arsonist set a fire outside the front door a flat in Brighton and blocked the escape route.
Police investigating a suspected arson attack in Pelham Square, Brighton, are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
At about 3.45am on Thursday (19 March) a fire was found outside the front door of a flat, blocking a potential escape route for anyone inside.
Fortunately the fire, consisting of rubbish set alight, was put out before it spread and no one was hurt.
Detective Constable David Rose, of Brighton CID, said: "Such incidents are extremely dangerous and could easily lead to serious damage, injury or loss of life. We'd like to hear from anyone who noticed anything suspicious in this area during the early hours on Thursday."
