THE huge debate on immigration has spread across Europe. The way this extremely sensitive topic is publicised does matter.

For sure, the number of immigrants is increasing gradually from the European Union and from outside the EU as well. The government has issues with illegal immigration, overstayed visas and the effects on the benefits system. But blaming everything on immigration does not sound right.

Last November the Centre for Immigration and Analysis of Migration came out with a new report on immigration showing the positive economic impact on the UK of immigrants from the EU.

There was more taxes paid than benefits received in 2014.

Nevertheless, there are many articles published with disparate headlines and content. Public debate on immigration centres on whether immigrants contribute their fair share to the tax and welfare system. The negative headlines have been advocating that immigration could be the root of all economic problems.

The problem is the focus on numbers and leaving out the positive facts.

I believe that immigrants should not be judged by stereotypes and numbers.

Being an immigrant myself I am not saying that English people should love the fact that thousands of immigrants are moving to their country. Also, I do agree, many people have decided to live here because of England’s benefit system and a hope for a better life. However, I also know many immigrants who are working hard and studying the language. To my mind, the life is not easier here than in other country in Europe. Diligence and persistence is required to achieve goals no matter what your race or identity is.

It is all about attitude.
