Luminaries from the world of rock will descend on Brighton from across the planet this week.

Geologists are meeting at the Old Ship Hotel to put together one of the most ambitious mapping projects ever.

They will be creating a jigsaw puzzle of the surface of the earth using digital data.

Leading scientists from 55 countries are involved, from as far apart as Australia and Brazil, Canada, Russia, Namibia and Japan.

It is hoped the OneGeology project will be useful for the developing world and helping issues like climate change.
