After seeing the article in The Argus ("Man eaten by shark", March 2) I felt compelled to write. Jason was one of my favourite cousins and like a big brother to me when I was growing up in Brighton in my teens and early 20s.

The whole family was devastated by the news of his death but my nan Jessie Cash, 84, took it incredibly badly because Jason was the first of her 38 grandchildren (she had 13 children) to pass away.

I think the not knowing how and why this happened is the hardest thing to deal with. We all knew Jason as a strong, keen swimmer.

I hope his spirit has been able to free itself from any pain.

Jason was always the heart and soul of a party and he would do anything for his friends and family. I am sure I can speak for a lot of people who knew him when I say he is going to be sorely missed.

But Jason would never have wanted anyone to wallow in grief.

He would have wanted us to carry on the party and celebrate the life he had.
