What a mean-spirited spoilsport Graham Smith is (Letters, March 9). Why is he so concerned about traffic disruption and money "wasted" on the visit to the city of the Queen and Prince Philip?

What about applying the same yardstick to, say, the annual Gay Pride Parade which disrupts the city far more?

The Queen is greatly loved around the globe, especially in the Commonwealth countries. I expect, at nearly 81, she wishes she could have put her feet up years ago and taken it easy.

Come on, Mr Smith - give credit where it is due, whatever your snarling old-fashioned republican views, shared by only a minority of the country.
