Oh dear! You cannot please some people, as a senior correspondent to The Argus indicates (Letters, March 9), saying he did not ask for a Sussex County Card to receive free bus travel in Sussex.
If he wants to pay the full price, I am sure the bus company will willingly accept his fare.
I am most grateful to the Government for giving me a free bus pass, as I put the money saved towards the council tax, the rate of which has doubled in ten years, in contrast to my basic state pension which has increased by only one third.
We must be grateful to Brighton and Hove City Council for the good results obtained in local transport planning and supported by an efficient bus service. This performance has enabled the Government to provide a £5.5 million grant to the council for further improvements.
Don't worry, Mr John Hyde- Smith, about using your bus pass, as this country stands 27th in the worldwide league for care of the elderly and with Gordon Brown as Prime Minister, England will no doubt drop a further five places.
