The tragic accident which befell Anne Smith (The Argus, March 7), who was killed by a rubbish truck in pedestrianised Cranbourne Street, Brighton, underlines the foolishness of making streets in the city pedestrianised.
In theory this should work, but in reality it is never going to. There will always be trucks loading and unloading in these streets all day long.
George Street, Hove, is a prime example, where we also have private cars, sometimes mounting the pavements at the north end where the barriers are, and cyclists riding up and down all day.
