The razor-tongued blonde bombshell Lola Lasagne hosts Brighton and Hove's answer to the Oscars - The Golden Handbag Awards.

The popular show, which makes other red carpet dos look about as glamorous as a trip down the Rovers Return, celebrates everything LGBT Brighton has to offer.

Readers of Gscene and Realbrighton.com have been voting online throughout February for their favourites in 17 different categories.

Top Golden Handbags this year include best club, bar, bar person, DJ, entertainer and club night and two special community awards. Last year saw Sevendials bag best restaurant and Wild Fruit headliner Pete Hayward take best DJ.

While the Academy Awards may have had Ellen DeGeneres, the Handbags presenters include everyone's favourite TV physic Colin Fry, who'll be taking a night off from the spirit world, and BBC Southern presenter Gordon Astley.

If that doesn't put a smile on your face, there's entertainment from Gareth Severn with a selection from his Robbie Williams tribute show No Regrets, local cabaret artists Dave Lynn, Maisie Trollette and Drag with No Name, as well as The Brighton and Hove Actually Gay Men's Chorus and TV ventriloquist comedy act Paul Zerdin - who's been described as "a ventriloquist for the South Park generation" by The Stage.

Every penny of the ticket money goes to good causes. This year, 75 per cent of the cash will be put towards a permanent Aids memorial planned for later this year to commemorate 25 years since the first cases of AIDS/HIV were reported.

The remaining 25 per cent of the ticket money will help fund the work of Spectrum, the LGBT community forum.
