Campaigners are holding a protest because they feel they are being denied the right to protest.

A group called the Freedom to Protest Coalition will gather at Churchill Square, Brighton, at midday tomorrow to try and reassert their rights.

It follows a series of controversial demonstrations in the city which the group claims have been broken up by the police.

Sam Hayward, of the Freedom to Protest coalition, said: "Freedom of expression and association are under attack.

"Over the last few years the state has given the police the right to impose conditions on gatherings of over one person, have outlawed spontaneous protest in Parliament Square and other key sites, limited the right to trial by jury and increased police powers of arrest and detention without trial.

"If we do not reaffirm our right to protest it will be taken away."
