The Argus headlines Greens bid for horse race ban and Greens want to ban the sport (April 14), appear over a story that quotes a party spokesman stating the party does not have a policy to ban racing.
How does not having a policy to ban racing get headlined as bidding to ban the sport?
Looks like the old Daily Mail trick of distorting what’s said and then whipping up outrage over it.
Asked about the manifesto reference to a review after the double fatality at the Grand National, the party leader explained that if such a review resulted in new rules on animal protection the party would not rule out seeking to prevent events which did not comply with the rules.
This is furlongs away from banning the sport.
Is the Argus on a deliberate insidious Green-bashing campaign or was this just sloppy journalism?
I am not a Green Party member, just a reader who wants his local paper to be politically independent.
