A MAN was attacked by a group of youths after he challenged them about their rowdy behaviour.
The “public spirited individual” was kicked and punched in the street after approaching the youths kicking traffic cones and shouting around Eastbourne train station.
Police said about five or six members of the group followed the man, 26, and his partner, 23, attacking him at the junction of St Anne’s Road and Enys Road, Eastbourne.
The incident happened on Sunday at around 3.45am.
Sergeant Howard Nevill, of Eastbourne police, said: "This was a cowardly, unprovoked attack on a public-spirited individual.
"Fortunately he sustained only minor injuries but the outcome could have been significantly worse.
"This is not usual for Eastbourne and we would welcome public support in identifying the offenders."
He advised people to contact police rather than get directly involved in similar circumstances.
