Anyone who simply wants to smile like a fool and dance even more so, should go to see Coco and the Butterfields.

Their mix of covers, hip-hop and some good ol’ fashioned hoe downs certainly got the crowd moving.

This young band from Canterbury comprised of an unusual combination of violin, double bass, saxophone, guitar, banjo and beatbox - a perfect backdrop for the rest of the band, avoiding the dreaded “gimmick” tag.

The result is unashamedly happy pop-folk, almost Disney-like in its sheer silliness. Their musical prowess should not be underestimated though, special mention for Dulcima Showan and her voice, but the whole band are accomplished musicians.

Sometimes the performance bordered on naivety, and it seemed they were finding their feet as a band. A thorough sound check would be recommended.

Their choice of covers was good, particularly Flo Rida’s Low, but their own music was dramatically better. Their reliance on covers within the set was troubling.

They are early on in their career and development, but they are perfect for the festival season and definitely one to keep an eye on for the future.

A special mention goes to support act Brighton-born Cate Ferris - this loop-pedalling knock out singer is one for the Brighton faithful to get excited about.
