IT will come as no surprise to many people that private companies have been awarded five times more NHS contracts this year than last. (Argus, April 27).
A report by the NHS Support Federation shows that, since the Health & Social Care Act came into force last April, there has been a huge increase in market testing of NHS services with private firms winning much of the ‘business’.
If we ever needed proof of what a future Tory government would mean for our NHS, this is it.
Market testing of NHS services is expensive, time consuming and totally unnecessary.
Where services are not up to scratch they can be improved and monitored within the NHS. You don’t need to sell services off to do this.
Labour has made it quite clear that they will repeal the Health & Social Care Act. I can’t wait.
Peter Atkinson, Labour candidate, North Portslade
