A COLLEGE salon has opened again after being closed due to the discovery of legionella.

City College Brighton and Hove’s hair and beauty salon, called City Revival, tested positive for the bacteria.

A City College spokesman said: “Following recent remedial action by our water treatment specialists, the college is pleased to report that the water resample at an outlet in the City Revival salons, where a very low level of bacteria had previously been detected, has come back with a safe reading.

“The salons can now return to full operations without any further action required.

“As usual, the college will be continuing with its preventative routine checks and maintenance of all its water systems to ensure ongoing compliance with stringent industry standards.”

Normally found naturally in ponds, rivers and lakes, the bacteria can multiply quickly in large buildings with complex water supply systems.

The college confirmed that, in this case, it was not a reportable incident where the Health and Safety Executive was concerned.

Rebecca Conroy, the college’s vice principle, said that closing the salon was a precautionary measure.

City College Brighton and Hove said its salons are offering half-price colouring, a special offer on perms and free women’s haircuts.
