Julie Healy, of Callaways, takes a look at what makes Hove so popular with buyers and renters.

If you’re planning on moving to Brighton with your family, then consider moving to Hove. Situated right next door to Brighton’s city centre, Hove is a firm favourite with families living in the area.

Not only are there lots of schools nearby, there are plenty of clubs and societies for families - perfect if you like getting involved in the community.

There are also several leisure centres, a huge library, and lots of open spaces to enjoy. As Hove is situated on the seafront, trips to the beach will be a big bonus if you decide to move here.

Not only is Hove great for starter families, the range of bigger properties means that if you have older children, or your own football team, you can find a house to fit you all in with ease. Its proximity to Brighton means that teenagers will never get bored, and the range of shops and supermarkets makes it an ideal destination for mums to do the weekly shop.

Where to buy? There are certain areas in Hove that locally have become regarded as “property hot spots”. These areas are predominantly located in the centre, the so called “Avenues” that run south from Church Road to the seafront, i.e. First, Second, Third and Fourth with Grand Avenue in the middle. Within this location there is a good mix of one and two bedroom apartments, converted from substantial Victorian mansion houses. Properties in these areas are often in demand and can command a price premium, especially apartments with original features and those that come with outside space, such as a garden or balcony.

Other popular areas to consider are the roads around the station, which are always in demand for obvious reasons. Denmark Villas, Goldstone Villas, and Eaton Road and slightly further afield Norton, Tisbury, Selborne and Wilbury roads are all good choices, being convenient for both the station and the main shopping, social and leisure areas and bars of Church Road, George Street and Blatchington Road.
