ELDERLY residents will need a new place to live after their care home announced it was closing.

Residents of Hereford House have been told they have two months to find new homes as the care unit is shutting down due to financial problems.

Vigcare who run the care home in Hereford Road, Brighton, said they are working with Brighton and Hove City Council to try to find the residents new homes.

The council currently houses some of its residents at the private care home and said they are working to find alternative accommodation.

Hereford House provides care for people over the age of 65 and those who live with dementia along with other physical health needs, such as diabetes, sensory impairment and other long term health conditions.

During the last Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection of the home there were 27 residents living there, aged between 45 and 90.

The last CQC report, following an inspection in February, stated the care home required improvements in all areas.

A spokesman for Vigcare said: “After discussions with the council and exploring other options for the home to continue running, due to financial constraints and the viability of the home, it is with regret that the home is closing.

“We are working closely with the council to ensure all residents find suitable homes and we are helping our staff to find suitable employment.”

The company also runs Springfields Nursing Home in Langdale Road and Summer Lodge in Sackville Road – both in Hove.

A spokeswoman for Brighton and Hove City Council said: “The council has a number of residents which it funds at Hereford House residential care home in Brighton, and is working closely with the care home, the residents and their relatives to find alternative accommodation.

“In this respect a representative from the council has already met with the owner of Hereford House to discuss the transfer of residents, and a letter has been sent from the council to all residents informing them of what is happening.”
