A CYCLIST is in a serious condition in hospital after a crash with a car.

The 37-year-old man was airlifted to hospital with a head injury following the accident in Broadbridge Heath yesterday. [20/5]

Emergency services were called to the Newbridge roundabout, where the A281 and the A264 meet in Billingshurst Road at around 9am after the accident involving a black Audi Q7 car.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was taken by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

The road was closed while road traffic officers investigated the scene and it re-opened around three and a half hours later.

Sergeant Neil Cox said: "This was a serious collision and as a result there were some severe delays in the Horsham and Broadbridge Heath areas and Sussex Police would also like to take this opportunity to thank drivers for their patience whilst this collision was being dealt with."
