An elderly man seriously ill in hospital after being hit by a car.
The 89-year-old, who has not been named, was struck by a Peugeot on the A259 Marine Drive at the junction with Chailey Drive in Rottingdean.
The road was closed for about two hours following the accident at about 3.30pm yesterday.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "It was mayhem on the roads."
