So, seagull are making David Wilson's life "a misery" and "earplugs are standard issue" for his visitors (Letters, March 28).

Well, David - you live in Brighton about 400 metres from the beach. What do you expect?

It's a bit like buying a home next to the M25 and then complaining about the traffic.

Herring gulls are native to coastal regions throughout northern Europe. They were here long before man was.

I do agree they shouldn't be actively encouraged by people feeding them but as for them eating any discarded fish and chips or doner kebabs careless late-night revellers drop on the pavement, this is surely an environmentally friendly way of cleaning up.

Besides, because of their high trans-fat diet, Brighton's gulls probably won't live as long as their fellows in more remote areas, so the population will be kept down anyway.

Personally, as someone who moved to Brighton and Hove from London some years ago, I love the seagulls. I find their calls lull me to sleep at night and they make fine mascots for the Albion.
