This famous picture of West Street in Brighton is dominated by the great lantern tower of St Paul's, the fishermen's church, which is still there today.
It is also notable for showing, immediately to the left, the old Sports Stadium when it was an ice rink.
Its loss, more than 40 years ago, is still lamented today but ice fans hope it will soon be replaced at Black Rock.
Perhaps the most remarkable feature of the postcard is the almost complete absence of traffic. There are a couple of cars but no parking restrictions at all.
There is but one bus, whereas today there are many using West Street as a diversion while Southern Water carries out work in North Street.
The picture is from the collection of Terry Sinnott.
