As has become evident through several months of letters to The Argus and the behaviour of Brighton and Hove City Council, the King Alfred development dispute is basically coming down to this: Brighton wants it and Hove does not.
The truth is, to a Brightonian stepping out on to the Kemp Town seafront, the giant hulking King Alfred towers will appear as nothing more than a somewhat interesting little artistic blurb on the distant horizon. And a genuine Gehry blurb at that.
Only the residents of Hove will have to suffer on a day-to-day basis the enormous amount of additional traffic and noise generated, endure the ridiculous wonky-shaped towers every time they gaze towards the seafront, and shiver in the shadows this monster development will cast up and down Hove's precious beaches and lawns.
This is a terrible shame, considering there is a locally designed and betterscaled alternative vision for the site, one which is sensitive to Hove's concerns, while still delivering a free sports centre open to all residents of the city, whether they live in Brighton or Hove.
