Another reason for the dramatic loss of songbirds from our gardens which was highlighted in the recent RSPB survey, though not mentioned in your article (The Argus, April 2), is the enormous number taken by domestic cats.
Magpies and pigeons are not the only predators our wild birds have to contend with.
One simple answer to this would be if pet owners could be persuaded to put collars with small bells attached to them round their cats' necks.
The birds would then hear the cats coming and be able to escape.
