Your contributor Jean Calder has never made a secret of her left-wing sympathies and often makes valid points no one could disagree with.

But to talk about the "appalling record of previous Conservative governments" in relation to the dismal present condition of the NHS betrays bias of an extreme nature (The Argus, March 24).

Many of us who have been politically aware over the past four or five decades will know that no government of any political complexion has succeeded in resolving the many problems which bedevil the NHS.

An important truth which has surfaced since the start of Labour control since 1997 is that throwing money at it is not the answer.
