HUNDREDS of people watched as floats and an army of performers coasted through the streets of Worthing.

The action came courtesy of Broadwater Carnival, which returned for another fun-and-frolics edition on Saturday.

As the parade made its way through the town, more than 100 different stalls including face-painting, food, tombolas, craft stalls were on hand for thousands of revellers to explore.

Kids were entertained with bouncy castles, face painting and games.

For the first time ever, the carnival coincided with an open day at Worthing Fire Station, located just opposite the green.

Karl Edwards, 26, from Worthing, took his one-and-a-half-year-old son Joey and fiancé Sammi Bocutt to the fire station.

He said: “Joey loved it and couldn't stop smiling. There was lots going on like demonstrations and talks - enough to keep all the families entertained for the day. We all had a really good time.

“It was busy too – probably because of the good weather we had.”

Darren Wickings, watch manager at Worthing Fire Station, said: "Getting to know our local community and giving them the opportunity to get to know us is really important. It's a day of fun and excitement combined with some potentially life-saving information and advice."
