A cancer sufferer took a luxury trip organised by a childhood friend.

Sandra Carey Boggans, 42, from Southwick, was driven from her home to Brighton Marina in a pink Rolls Royce, where she was taken out to sea in a yacht with her family and friends today.

She was given a picnic of strawberries and champagne and presented with a pink fluffy 'Jim'll Fix It' badge - obtained by her chauffeurs Hove-based Pink Rolls Royce Company.

The day was organised by childhood friend Emily Hooper, who reignited her friendship with the mother-of-two after reading her diary column in The Argus.

She has set up a series of treats for her pal, including a helicopter ride and a trip in a stunt plane, to help take her mind off her recent pain.

Sandra has been in and out of the hospital for the past few months after doctors found the disease had spread to her brain and her bone cancer became much worse.

She has been on steroids, which gives her a big appetite, and chemotherapy which has meant she lost her hair and has had to be readmitted to Worthing Hospital several times.

Sandra said: "We had a fantastic time.

"It gave me a real buzz. I have been feeling a bit down and in lots of pain recently but I didn't even think about pain on the trip.

"Although I think the champagne made us a bit giggly."

Emily said: "Sandra really looked after me in the past and is just such a fantastic person - I really wanted to do something for her."

Sandra was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and thought she was recovering after a mastectomy but in August 2005 she was told her cancer had spread. Doctors gave her two months to live at the time. She lives with her husband Tom, 50, and sons Lewis, nine, and Jacob, 12.
