A person has been killed by a train on its way to London.
The service was passing through Plumpton when the accident happened just before 6pm.
It is understood lines were blocked between Wivelsfield and Lewes.
Gina Hawthorne, who lives nearby, said at the time: "There are about nine police cars and a helicopter here, loads of people in attendance.
"I was just walking back over the bridge crossing and saw all the emergency services piling in.
"We heard the sirens and as we crossed over we saw the train was stopped on the track past the gates on its way to London."
The 4.50pm Ore to London Victoria train terminated at Plumpton.
A full service resumed at about 7.15pm.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: "It would appear to be a non-suspicious death. The person appears to have been on the track deliberately."
@SouthernRailUK I'm on the train involved at #Plumpton - your staff have been amazing. Deepest sympathy to your driver, a shock for us all.
