RISING judo star Stuart Jacobs continued his superb form by taking gold at the British Judo Council's Welsh Junior Nationals.

The former St Joan of Arc School pupil, who was recently awarded a place at the prestigious National Academy for Judo, was victorious in the under 71kg male espoir category.

Jacobs occasionally trains at the Bournehall Judo Club, in Bushey Grove Road, and they now boast another Welsh champion in Lewis Yates, who won the under 30kg junior section.

Fellow local fighter Claire Knapp took bronze in the under 45kg junior girls.

Meanwhile, other Bournehall fighters were in action at the British Schools Judo Association's Herts Schools Invitation Championships in Berkhamsted on Sunday.

Brother and sister players Jack and Lauren Attewell enjoyed silver success, while club mate Christoper Morgan claimed bronze.

Other local achievements saw Bushey Manor jointly win the category for the junior school with the most medals overall, while Grove School's Hannah Thornton was named best girl.

Iruka Judo Club who train at Watford Fields Junior School were also well represented in the competition, with several of their members picking up medals.

Mark Edwards continues to make a name for himself after the Parmiters pupil picked up gold in the 14 to 17 boys over 60 kg event, while Allan Dimmock, of Hatch End High, and Adam Hopkins, of Watford High, both took silvers in the under 60kg and under 42kg events respectively.

Meanwhile, Parmiters' Emir Uzeirbegovic who only took up the sport ten months ago exceeded all expectations to take bronze, and shows a lot of potential for future events.
