THE Brighton Hippodrome remains at the top of a list of theatre buildings at risk.
The latest register published by The Theatres Trust said the Grade II* listed building in Middle Street is still a concern.
This is the announcement in June that former leaseholders Academy Music Group had bought the freehold after a lengthy campaign to revive it as a live music venue.
Campaigners are now making the case for it to be restored to a theatre after the venue closed in 2007.
The trust’s report said: “With investment it could have a future as a thriving performance venue and be a focal point for the regeneration of Brighton’s old town.”
It is one of more than 30 buildings across the country the trust thinks are in trouble.
One of four theatres removed from the register this year was the Curzon Cinema and Redstack Playhouse in Bexhill.
The report said: “Despite huge efforts by its local community to save it as a cultural venue, and listing it as an Asset of Community Value, the playhouse was sold by its owners to the pub chain, JD Wetherspoon.”
