Riccardo Garcia told Saturday's audience that Brighton's weather that day reminded him of summer in Spain.
But his show, instead of being like a lazy, cloudless bank holiday, somehow has the energy of a really good summer rainstorm.
Garcia plucks out notes on his guitar like droplets, his dancers' feet pitter and clomp away on the stage, and the whole thing builds and ebbs like weather.
When the two Flamenco dancers are joined by a third - a break dancer, all swooping legs and anti-gravity poses - that's when it really gets cool.
The kids in the audience had fun, a Flamenco lover beside me liked Garcia's experimentation and I just thought it was great.
