A NEWBURY man has been sentenced for a string of drugs offences, after pleading guilty to possessing class A and class B drugs.

George Morgan, 19, of Dickens Walk, appeared at Reading Crown Court on Friday, October 16, charged with one count of possessing class B drug mephedrone, known as M-cat or meow meow, with intent to supply, one count of possessing class A drug, cocaine and one count of possessing class B drug cannabis.

He was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for two years and was ordered to do 100 hours of unpaid work and put on probabtion with 12 months supervision, after pleading guilty to the offences.

He was also ordered to pay costs and a victim surcharge totalling £1,000.

Morgan was arrested in Newbury on Boxing Day last year when he was to found to have six bags of mephredrone on him and his home was searched later the same day, where police found cocaine.

Thames Valley Police officers searched his home again on February 13 this year and found cannabis.

Morgan was charged for possessing drugs on June 23.

Investigating officer, Sgt Damien Isherwood of the patrol team based at Newbury police station, said: “Morgan had no choice but to plead guilty to the charges due to the overwhelming evidence against him.

"If Morgan reoffends in the next two years then his suspended sentence will be imposed.

“I am happy with the result and would like to thank all those at Thames Valley Police who worked on this investigation, as well as the Crown Prosecution Service for bringing the case to court.

“The judge commented that drugs ruin people’s lives and I would echo these remarks; drug dealers spread misery and take advantage of the vulnerable in society.

“Thames Valley Police will continue to target drug dealers with every possible means available to us in order to make West Berkshire a safe place to live."
