A YOUNG man whose car plunged over a cliff is understood to have survived and now been discharged from hospital.

The 20-year-old man was winched off the beach by helicopter and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Emergency services were called out to Beachy Head near Eastbourne yesterday afternoon (November 4) just after 3pm to reports of a car being driven off a cliff.

A police spokesman said: "The driver sustained bruising and a broken rib. We believe he has been discharged from hospital but have received no update from the hospital to confirm that.

"There are no further police enquiries over the incident."

It is understood a member of the public made the 999 call.

Firefighters from Eastbourne were also called to the scene and police confirmed that a vehicle had landed on the beach area.
