In response to Graham Chainey's correspondence against city-wide wi-fi in Brighton and Hove (Letters, May 9), I would like to add several points.

Wi-fi emits the same frequency microwaves as mobile and cordless phones, phone masts, and wireless baby monitors and burglar alarms.

All of these have been linked repeatedly in thousands of studies with serious adverse health effects.

Particular concern has been voiced over children and babies whose thinner skulls increase radiation absorption and, it is suggested, whose greater rate of cell division increases the likelihood of cancer.

Austria, Poland and Russia have already banned under 16s from using mobiles, and even our own Government's official advice is that this age group only use them in emergencies.

There is strong evidence suggesting wireless baby monitors prevent many babies from sleeping, and far worse, a huge increase in cot deaths since their advent. My microwave measuring equipment has long shown unacceptably high levels of microwaves in most areas of Brighton.

By the time the epidemics of brain tumours and cancer of which eminent researchers in this field are trying to warn us about become clear, it will be too late.
