I am writing in response to the letter titled No wristband, No pop band (Letters, May 10).

As HMV store manager, I would like to apologise to the fans that did not get a chance to meet McFly. We had 500 wristbands, which is all my store could manage in the two hours we had with the members of the group.

The fact we had only 500 wristbands was communicated on our posters and website.

Due to McFly's popularity, this was not enough to satisfy the overwhelming numbers of fans we had from all over the South and beyond. Some fans arrived at 6am from as far away as the Midlands. A small number even camped out overnight.

The wristbands where not given out until 9.30am from the store.

Prior to this time there were more than 500 fans outside the store who were given raffle tickets in order of what time they had arrived. Once again, these were issued for crowd control and health and safety.

Many people were disappointed.

However, we could not cater for more. In the two hours McFly had for signing, they got through 125 people every 30 minutes.

For those fans lucky enough to meet their idols, the operation was well organised and controlled by my staff and Churchill Square security staff.
