ROCK star Nick Cave’s son Arthur was under the influence of LSD when he fell from cliffs and later died, an inquest heard.

The 15-year-old was found on Undercliff Walk by passersby before being rushed to hospital by paramedics from Ovingdean Gap on July 14.

He later died from fatal and "unsurvivable" head injuries.

Brighton Senior Coroner Veronica Hamilton-Deeley this afternoon recroded Arthur's death as accidental.

Parents Nick Cave and Susie Bick embraced when the verdict was read out but did not speak to the press before leaving Brighton Coroners' Court.

The inquest heard a post mortem found he had ingested the hallucinogenic drug, also known as acid, prior to the accident, according to evidence given by pathologist Dr Simi George at the inquest this morning.

Detective Constable Vicky Loft also told the court a friend of Arthur, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said the pair had arranged to take the drugs together near Rottingdean windmill but their "trip" had turned "dark".

Veronica Langford was driving on the A259 when she saw a boy in the field looking "out of it".

She pulled over and ran to his aid but he had already fallen from the cliff, the court heard.

The family's solicitor Sean Horstead expressed "deepest thanks" to all of those who came to Arthur's aid.

A family tribute issued at the time of his death said: “He was our beautiful, happy, loving boy."

A court order made by senior coroner Veronica Hamilton-Deeley initially prevented the identification of anyone under the age of 18 involved in the proceedings.

But after applications from members of the press, it was amended so Arthur could be identified.

The coroner recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
