Simon Kirby is selective in his spin about Gordon Brown (Letters, May 15). He forgets that we have had ten years of uninterrupted financial stability and growth under this Labour Government and Gordon Brown as Chancellor, something Conservative predecessors could not match. We all remember Norman Lamont on Black Wednesday, with David Cameron standing at his shoulder, admitting billions of pounds of taxpayers' money had been lost in one afternoon.

The Dome was a Conservative Government project inherited by Labour, who made it the most popular visitor attraction in the UK in 2000.

Not only have tax credits helped lift thousands out of poverty and New Deal programmes put more people in work than ever before, but sustained and unprecedented investment in public services has reduced NHS waiting lists and increased cancer survival rates, as well as improving academic achievement beyond anything seen under Thatcher and Major.

This record of achievement stacks up well against David Cameron's Tory makeover, which is a triumph of presentational style over policy substance.
